Declutter the BathroomBathrooms usually being the smallest yet most used rooms in the house can easily turn into quite a clutter problem. You can usually find lots of magazines, catalogs, cleaning products, medicines, toiletries, candles, hair dryers, towels and much more miscellaneous things strewn about. The list is long and the room is small thus creating a major need to declutter. As we did in the bedroom by making the bed, here we want to make something shine. It can be as simple as cleaning the bathroom sink, once it’s gleaming you will see an immediate result which will set you on your way to conquering this room. Around the tub area you can also find many forms of clutter. There always seem to be an abundance of almost empty bottles shampoo & conditioner, shower gels, and let’s not forget that almost flat bar of soap. It seems nobody wants to be the one to finish or use those, so there they stay along with all the new products. In order to declutter we must get rid of them. If you’re feeling like you’re throwing away your money, then use the shampoo and conditioner to wash to tub or toilet, etc. Once you know what goes back into the tub area, find a shower caddy that only allows you to fit the items you are putting back, thus avoiding future clutter problems. Old damp and wrinkled magazines and/or books are another clutter problem area. They can be found on the back of the toilet, in a basket/rack or just lying around it all over the floor. This room is not big enough for all that unnecessary clutter. Think about the last time anyone read these items? To declutter, remove them including any basket or rack you will see an immediate result. If you must have a book or magazine in the bathroom, then have just one and remember to change it regularly so that the dampness doesn’t ruin it. A combination tissue holder/magazine rack can also keep things more orderly. The medicine cabinet can hazardous and you should declutter it often. For some unknown reason we all keep unused prescription medicine. Good rules of thumb, if you don’t suffer from it anymore, don’t keep it around to remind you that you did. When it comes to cold remedies, aspirin and over-the-counter medicines get rid of any that have expired or that you can no longer read the label. If you come across two or more bottles with the same medicine inside, never combine them because they probably have different expiration dates. Create a First Aid box to keep things like bandages, gauze, ointments, etc., and declutter it once a year. On bathroom counters you can find a variety of clutter. Let’s begin with trial size toiletries and cosmetics clutter collected from every hotel/resort/cruise or received as samples in the mail. One way to declutter this area would be to use a vanity caddy. Another solution if you like to use these for travel, keep them in a labeled box or basket, when packing for a trip, grab what you need. If you don’t use these, get rid of them. For our teeth cleaning supplies maybe consider a revolving dental center Let’s not forget all those nail polish bottles and makeup that we’ve accumulated. These products deteriorate quickly, anything older than 6 months should be trashed. If there are newer products that you are not using, give them away to someone who will. Too many cleaning products create a clutter issue; only keep a set of basic cleaning products in the bathroom if you have the space. If there is no space for these consider putting them in an easy-to-carry container. Old towels and facecloths overstuffed in the linen closet create more clutter. To declutter, depending on their condition, these can be donated to shelters or used for dusting or cleaning rags to wash the car. Only keep what you use!
By simply using beautiful containers and placing similar products together, you can better make use of the small space found in a bathroom. Containers include small individual baskets, drawer inserts or separators, organizing caddies, see through boxes, hooks, etc. You will emerge as the winner with the bathroom declutter. |
